Our Spray in Place Solutions, LLC (SIPS) Team recently rehabilitated approximately 1,310 linear feet of 8-inch ductile iron water main in the Chicagoland area. This was our first potable water project in the state of Illinois, and we worked closely with the utility to get approval from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) for this project.
This water main had a history of leaks and breaks and had been out of service due to large breaks for 8-10 months. We located the breaks with our CCTV camera and decided that a CIPP bladder patch was the best solution for both break points. We were able to insert these patches in-situ from 6x6 foot access pits and then we sprayed over them to seal everything in with one monolithic coating, bonding and adhering to the host pipe and patches to ensure that no water gets behind the CIPP patches.
We used our state-of-the-art model SR 2000 Robotic Spray Application system to apply 3mm of Warren Environmental’s NSF 61 approved, zero VOC, single coat 100% solids epoxy which has an engineered life of over 75 years. Our SIPS application team has roughly 85% of the application history across the country in coating water mains with Warren Environmental’s potable water epoxy.
